Photos and story by Miriam King, Bradford Times Participants of all ages ran, walked, strolled and cycled the route, in Bradford?s annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 15.
Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope in 1980 - a Run across Canada
that was inspired by the suffering he saw in hospital, while being treated for osteosarcoma. Fox wanted to run across Canada, on his prosthetic leg, to raise $1 for each Canadian for research, and to bring the discussion of cancer out of the shadows. His Marathon was cut short after 143 days, when his cancer returned - but every year, Canadians have remembered Terry, remembered his dream, and run in his memory. The annual Terry Fox Run invites people of all ages to run, walk, rollerblade, scoot or bike, to raise money for cancer research, and a cure. Bradford?s Terry Fox Run took place September 15, this year starting and ending on the open space between the new Bradford Public Library and the BWG Leisure Centre. Over 100 participants came out to run, walk or see TERRY FOX Page 21 WE BRING THE SEA TO YOU
