On September 29, Scanlon Creek and the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority welcomed families to the Discovery Play Garden, for a Kids? Discover Doors Open Bradford!
For the first time, Bradford will be participating in Doors Open Ontario - an initiative of Ontario Heritage Trust, that offers visitors an opportunity to see behind the scenes, at heritage and municipal buildings. Doors Open was first launched in France, in 1984, as La Journeé Portes Ouverts. The first Doors Open event in North America took place in Toronto, in 2000 - and since then, it has caught on across the country. The BWG Municipal Heritage Committee will be hosting Doors Open Bradford this Saturday, October 5, with free admission between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 10 key sites: 1. The Auld Kirk, 3380 Line 6 BWG. 2. BWG Public Library & Cultural Centre, 425 Holland St. West. 3. Bradford United Church, 66 Barrie St. 4. The Ballawoods Centre, 162 Barrie St. - former home of W.H. Day. 5. Simcoe Masonic Lodge, 1 Barrie St. 6. BWG Wastewater Treatment Plant, 225 Dissette St. - Take a guided tour of the facility - hourly, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. 7. The Guild of Automotive Restorers, 44 Bridge St. - stars of the new History Channel series, Restoration Garage. 8. Art Janse Pumping Station in the Holland Marsh, 600 Pumphouse Rd. See the pumps that keep the Marsh safe! 9. Stone Farmhouse at Scanlon Creek Conservation Area; use the Bark Park with the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation. ?Come and visit this beautiful area.? For a nominal $10 per vehicle (free with a Season Pass to Scanlon) families could participate in activities, hike the trails, or simply have fun on the giant ?erratic? - a boulder deposited by melting glaciers at the end of the last ice age - the slide, entrance off Yonge St., between the sandbox, and new Play Fort. see DOORS Page 8
